Caps Re-Sign Defenseman Morrisonn

POSTED: 4:07 pm CDT July 26, 2008

(Sports Network) - The Washington Capitals have re-signed defenseman Shaone Morrisonn to a one-year contract, vice president and general manager George McPhee announced on Saturday. Per club policy, financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Morrisonn, 25, registered one goal and nine assists in 76 games for the Capitals last season. He finished fourth on the team with an average of 20:16 of ice time per game.

A native of Vancouver, British Columbia, Morrisonn was originally picked by the Boston Bruins in the first round (19th overall) of the 2001 NHL Entry Draft. The Captials acquired the rearguard from Boston, along with a first- and second-round selection in the 2004 draft, in exchange for defenseman Sergei Gonchar on March 3, 2004.

Morrisonn has six goals and 39 assists in 278 career games with the Bruins and Capitals.
