City Leaders Think Stores Are Gang Hangouts

DEL CITY, Okla. -- Del City police are taking a closer look at area convenience stores to see if gang members are hanging out there.City leaders asked the Oklahoma County Sheriff’s Office to investigate after noticing more people outside the stores.Del City Manager Mark Edwards told The Associated Press he’s concerned about people loitering outside stores and asked police to keep an extra eye out.
“It’s really an informal request to drive through and let folks know we’re in the area,” said Mark Myers, of the Oklahoma County Sheriff’s Office.Deputies are also running checkpoints to look for fugitives, stolen vehicles and traffic citations. Investigators said 14 vehicles were impounded during Del City’s most recent checkpoint.
