Business Destroyed in Massive Fire
Around 11 p.m. Tuesday, firefighters arrived at the Farrington Towing and Recovery building. Large flames could be seen for miles in the night sky, fire crews said. About 45 minutes later, fire crews reported the roof of the building had collapsed."We had propane tanks that were going off throughout the fire incident," said Deputy Fire Chief Cecil Clay.Clay said one firefighter was injured after spraining his ankle. He is reportedly going to be OK. The Red Cross responded to the scene to help firefighters stay hydrated in the heat.Investigators are working to determine what caused the blaze. More than 70 firefighters used more than 1.2 million gallons of water to fight the fire. The intense flames and the age of the building made it difficult for fire crews to get very close."We had access problems and this building is an old structure," said Clay. "It has a bow-string truss, which are famous for collapsing."
