Kevin Sims
Eyewitness News 5 reporter Kevin Sims was a research assistant for KOCO in April 1995 when he found himself caught up in one of the most devastating events in Oklahoma history -- the bombing of the Alfred Murrah building."Immediately, I was thrown into the biggest news story in the world -- at first, answering phones around the clock, making calls to confirm the facts, anything that needed to be done," Sims explained. "After a few weeks, I settled in next to Terri Watkins as she tracked Timothy McVeigh. She was instrumental in my career and it is very rewarding now to be working with her again."Kevin is a native Oklahoman, born and raised in Enid. He graduated from Chisholm High School there and received his bachelor's degree in journalism from the University of Oklahoma.
Following his initial stint at KOCO 5, Kevin went on to report for a television station in Amarillo, Texas, where he interviewed then-Gov. George W. Bush several times. He would later work as a reporter in Chattanooga, Tenn., and was honored with an Associated Press award for continuing coverage of a news event."I got into this business because of my love for writing and current events," he says. "It's the best of both worlds."Kevin came home to Oklahoma when he joined Eyewitness News 5 in 2002. He lives in Oklahoma City with his pet dog, "Peeve," and enjoys spending time with his close family in Enid and Mustang. Kevin's hobbies include tennis, running and racquetball.Send e-mail to Kevin Sims
