Free School Supplies Available In Norman

Program Serves Families In Norman, Noble, Little Axe, Lexington, Robin Hill

POSTED: 2:45 pm CDT July 8, 2008

Families in Norman and some surrounding communities can sign up for free school supplies starting July 21. The United Way of Norman distributes the supplies through the ABC School Supply Program.

The program serves Pre-K through 12th grade students in Norman, Noble, Little Axe, Lexington and Robin Hill. Families must meet specific income guidelines to qualify.

An intake process will be held at CrossPointe Church July 21 through the 25, from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. each day. CrossPointe Church is located at Highway 9 East and 24th Avenue SE in Norman.

Families must bring all of the following information to the intake process:

  • Current proof of income - This includes documentation of all TANF, DHS and SSI funding, payroll, child support and/or any other sources of income.
  • Current proof of residence
  • Social Security cards for all family members
  • Current Drivers License or Photo ID card
  • Failure to provide any of this information will keep your application from being processed or approved. Approved families will pick up their school supplies at the United Way of Norman office at a later date, typically a week before school starts.

The ABC School Supply Program assisted almost 660 students last year. The program is made possible in part by support from the following sponsors: Wal-Mart, Copelin's Office Center and Office Max.

Serving hundreds of students also requires donations from the community. You can make sure students have all the notebooks, crayons and backpacks they need on the first day of school by contributing to the ABC School Supply Program. If you want to help, call the United Way of Norman at 364-3800 or send a check Attn: ABC School Supply Program, c/o United Way of Norman, 550 24th Ave. NW Suite D, Norman, OK 73069.
