New OKC Supt. Addresses Media | Springer Resumè (PDF)Karl Springer was introduced as the new Oklahoma City superintendent at a meeting Monday afternoon. Springer had been the superintendent for the Mustang school district since 2000.
He will oversee 85 schools with 40,000 students and 5,000 employees. Springer will receive a $185,000 compensation package, part of a one-year deal.Springer beat out candidates from the Norman and Mid-Del school districts as well as the current acting superintendent for Oklahoma City.Springer had breakfast with the school district's foundation Monday morning, hours ahead of a vote scheduled for 1:30 p.m.The district had been seeking a permanent superintendent since Porter resigned in January.Porter was named the Oklahoma City superintendent in July 2007 and was suspended in January over disputed expense reports. He offered to resign if school board chairman Cliff Hudson did the same.The school board accepted the resignations of Porter and Hudson on Jan. 23.
